Semax 10mg – ACTH(4-7) analogue from neuroprotection research
Semax is a synthetic heptapeptide, also developed at the Institute of Molecular Genetics of the Russian Academy of Sciences in Moscow. It is derived from the ACTH(4-7) fragment of adrenocorticotropic hormone and has been extended with a stabilizing Pro-Gly-Pro sequence – without containing the hormone-active core sequence of ACTH. Semax has been approved as a nasal spray in Russia since 1994; its scientific investigations focus primarily on neuroprotection and cognitive research.
This 10mg vial is suitable for research approaches related to melanocortin receptor binding, BDNF/NGF expression and cerebral ischemia models.
Mechanism of action
Semax binds to central melanocortin receptors (primarily MC4R and MC5R) and exerts a neurotrophic effect via these receptors: In preclinical models, it demonstrated an upregulation of BDNF and NGF in the hippocampus and cortex, particularly after cerebral ischemia. As an ACTH fragment analog lacking the hormone-active nuclear sequence, it does not exhibit classic ACTH activity.

Reconstitution: Example calculation
For a working concentration of 10 mg/ml, the 10 mg vial is filled with 1 ml of sterile NaCl solution 0.9% Reconstituted – better suited for subsequent intranasal application than bacteriostatic water (BAC water), whose benzyl alcohol content can irritate the nasal mucosa. Slowly inject the solution along the inner wall of the vial and gently swirl it instead of shaking.
Recommendation for intranasal use
Our product is suitable for intranasal application. Nasal spray pump atomizer (20ml/empty) – The empty amber glass bottle with pump sprayer allows for precise, hygienic dosing of the peptide solution reconstituted with NaCl solution.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does Semax contain the hormone-active ACTH core sequence?
No, the sequence necessary for the hormonal ACTH effect is not contained in the Semax molecule – instead, it acts neurotrophically via melanocortin receptors.
How is Semax typically administered in studies?
Both in preclinical studies and in the Russian approval, predominantly intranasal administration.
Quality assurance
Each production batch undergoes independent dual testing: HPLC analysis to determine purity and LC-MS analysis to definitively verify molecular mass and correct peptide sequence. Only after passing this test is a batch released.
