SS-31 10mg – Mitochondrially targeted research peptide
SS-31 (also known as elamipretide or MTP-131) is a synthetic, aromatic-cationic tetrapeptide from the Szeto-Schiller peptide series, developed by the biotech company Stealth BioTherapeutics for mitochondrial research. In clinical trials such as TAZPOWER (Barth syndrome) and MMPOWER (primary mitochondrial myopathy), the drug was investigated for its effects on mitochondrial function.
This 10mg vial is suitable for research approaches related to cardiolipin stabilization, oxidative cell damage and mitochondrial bioenergetics.
Mechanism of action
SS-31 selectively binds to cardiolipin, a phospholipid found almost exclusively in the inner mitochondrial membrane that structurally supports the organization of respiratory chain complexes. Through this binding, SS-31 modulates the membrane surface electrostatics, stabilizes the cardiolipin-dependent arrangement of the electron transport chain, and reduces the energy load caused by calcium stress—without destabilizing the lipid bilayer itself.

For a working concentration of 10 mg/ml, the 10 mg vial is reconstituted with 1 ml of sterile bacteriostatic water (BAC water). Slowly inject the water along the inside of the vial and gently swirl it instead of shaking.
Frequently Asked Questions
What distinguishes SS-31 from other longevity peptides?
Unlike GH secretagogues or GLP-1 analogues, SS-31 does not act via hormone receptors, but binds directly to cardiolipin in the inner mitochondrial membrane — the focus is on cellular bioenergetics rather than systemic hormone axes.
What role does cardiolipin play in mitochondrial function?
Cardiolipin structurally organizes the complexes of the electron transport chain. Oxidative stress and aging processes can damage cardiolipin, impairing ATP production—this is precisely where SS-31 research comes in.
Quality assurance
Each production batch undergoes independent dual testing: HPLC analysis to determine purity and LC-MS analysis to definitively verify molecular mass and correct peptide sequence. Only after passing this test is a batch released.
